Pickups Take the Gravel First

Trucks ride high, spend more time on grid roads and spend harvest season tailing other trucks down Highway 11 and Highway 16. Put a tall, flat windshield on the front of all that and it catches more stones than anything else in the parking lot.

It’s also a bigger, heavier sheet of laminated glass. Two of us set it with suction cup lifters, and the urethane gets a little longer to cure. Picture the top board on a grain box: it’s what stops the whole box from bowing when it’s full. A truck windshield does that job for the cab.

Trucks and Vans We Set Glass In

Send us the year, make, model and trim. Truck glass changes with the camera package.

  • Half-Ton Pickups

The truck windshield we replace most. Nearly every newer half-ton has a lane camera and a rain sensor up there, so calibration comes with the job.

  • Heavy-Duty Pickups

Three-quarter and one-ton trucks, often with a bigger windshield, a heated wiper park area and a cab you need a step to reach.

  • Cargo and Passenger Vans

High-roof work vans and passenger vans have tall, steep glass. We set it with two people and a work platform, never one guy on a ladder.

  • Work Fleets

Contractor pickups, service vans and delivery units on a business account, booked around your crew’s day instead of ours.

Truck Windshield Prices

  • Half-ton, no camera: $400 to $700
  • Half-ton with lane camera: $650 to $1,200 with calibration
  • Heavy-duty pickup: $500 to $1,000
  • Cargo or passenger van: $450 to $900
  • Chip repair on any truck: $70 first chip

Heated wiper parks, acoustic glass and heads-up displays push a truck toward the top of its range. We quote off your VIN so the glass matches the options your truck actually has.

No word of a lie, we did 14 half-ton windshields in one week last October, the week after the canola harvest wrapped up. Gravel season and harvest traffic are hard on trucks.

Types of Truck and Fleet Glass Work

Pickup Truck Windshield Replacement

Pickups get the full routine. The cowl panel under the wipers comes off and the old windshield gets cut free with a cold knife. Then primer goes on the pinch weld (the metal lip the glass bonds to) to keep rust away, a fresh urethane bead follows, and the new glass drops in with suction cups. In a minus 30 week the truck stays inside our heated shop start to finish.

Van Windshield Replacement

Van windshield replacement is a reach job. A high-roof van has a tall, steep windshield, so we work off a platform with two people on the glass. Work vans that run all day usually carry a few chips as well, and we fill those while the urethane sets.

Fleet Windshield Replacement

Fleet windshield replacement comes down to downtime. Fleet trucks get the first slot of the morning: glass in, camera aimed, back on the road by noon most days.

Truck Chip Repair

The cheapest fix you’ll ever buy for a work truck. A $70 fill keeps a $1,000 windshield in the cab, so most fleets send a truck in for chip repair the same week a driver spots a new one.

Back Glass and Sliders on Pickups

Pickup back glass, sliders included, is its own part and often heated. Prices for it are on the car window replacement page.

Fleet Accounts for Saskatoon Businesses

Five trucks or fifty, running a fleet isn’t the same as owning one pickup. A fleet account gets one contact, one invoice a month and a standing early slot. Drivers can drop trucks before we open, and inside the city our pickup driver can collect them from your yard.

  • A single monthly invoice, each truck listed by unit number
  • Drop trucks off before we open and leave the keys in the slot
  • Chip repairs tracked per truck, so you can see who’s living on gravel
  • A calibration report on file for each equipped unit

Contractors from Martensville and Warman usually drop a truck on the way to a job in the city and grab it again by lunch.

We think a fleet manager should never have to chase a glass shop. That’s why every truck on an account gets a text when it’s done, with the unit number and what we did.

Why Bigger Glass Needs More Cure Time

A truck windshield is heavier than a car’s, and the urethane adhesive under it has to hold that weight plus the airbag load in a crash. Urethane cures by drawing moisture out of the air, so a cold, dry January day slows it right down. Same as a fresh rink flood: nobody skates until it’s set.

That’s the whole reason big glass gets set indoors when it’s cold. In our heated shop most trucks are good to drive 1 to 2 hours after the install. Honestly, setting a truck windshield outside at minus 20 to save an hour is a shortcut we won’t take.

Truck Windshield Replacement FAQs

How long does truck windshield replacement take?

Truck windshield replacement takes about 60 to 90 minutes in the shop, then 1 to 2 hours before the truck is safe to drive while the urethane sets. Add 30 to 60 minutes if there’s a lane camera to calibrate. Most pickups and vans are done inside a morning.

Do you replace windshields on work vans and fleet trucks?

Yes. We do windshields on cargo vans, passenger vans, contractor pickups and service trucks, and we set up fleet accounts with one invoice a month. Trucks can come in before we open, and inside Saskatoon our driver can collect them from your yard and bring them back.

Does my truck need calibration after a new windshield?

If there’s a camera on the windshield behind the mirror, yes, and most pickups from about 2018 on have one. That camera runs lane departure warning and automatic braking, so it has to be re-aimed once the new glass is in. On an SGI claim the calibration is included.

Is a truck windshield covered by SGI?

Yes. A truck windshield cracked by a road hazard is covered by SGI after your deductible: $50 or $100 on most package policies, $700 with plate insurance only. Business vehicles with commercial coverage go through the same steps, and we bill SGI directly for the rest.

Why do truck windshields crack so often?

Truck windshields crack often because pickups drive more gravel and grid roads, follow other trucks down the highway and carry a big, upright windshield that meets stones head-on. Then cold mornings and hot defrost turn little chips into long cracks. Filling chips early stops most replacements before they start.

Testimonials

A few words from drivers we have set glass for this year.

  • Gravel truck got me on Highway 11 and the crack was across the whole windshield by morning. They filed the SGI claim, I paid my $100 and had the truck back before lunch. No mess inside, no whistle on the highway.

  • Had a chip the size of a dime. They filled it in about twenty minutes and it cost me nothing with my package policy. Honest enough to say I did not need a new windshield.

  • Someone smashed my passenger window downtown. They picked the car up from my work, replaced the glass, vacuumed every bit out of the door and dropped it back by four. Fair price.
