Ask anyone who has worked glass on the prairies and they will tell you the same thing: January is the enemy. Urethane, the glue that holds a windshield in, cures with warmth and a little moisture in the air. At minus 25 in a driveway it barely cures at all. So years ago we stopped doing it outside. Every windshield we set goes in on a shop floor kept at 20°C, and the car stays until the glue is ready.
The rest of how we work came from the same kind of lesson. We file the SGI claim because watching people sit on hold to report a rock chip got old. We calibrate cameras in-house because sending someone to a dealer for a second appointment felt like half a job. And we pick cars up inside the city because a cracked windshield usually shows up on a workday.
We are a small crew. The person who looks at your chip is the person who fills it, and the price on the quote is the price on the bill. In our experience that matters more than any sign on the building: we have set over 4,100 windshields, and most of our work now comes from people who sent a neighbour. Small shop. Long memory.
Fill It if It Can Be Filled
If resin will save the windshield, we say so, even though a new one pays better. About nine in ten chips we see within a week can be filled.
Indoors, Every Time
No driveway installs in winter. We think heat and time are what make urethane hold, so we give it both, even when the customer is in a hurry.
The Camera Gets Aimed
If your car has a lane camera, it is calibrated before you leave. On SGI claims it costs you nothing extra.
No Surprises on the Bill
Mouldings, clips and calibration are in the quote. If something changes once the old glass is out, we call you before we go on.
