Car Window Replacement in Saskatoon, SK
Saskatoon Prestige Windshield does car window replacement in Saskatoon for all the glass that isn’t the windshield: door glass, back glass and its defroster grid, quarter glass and sunroof glass. The broken bits get vacuumed out, and most cars go home the same day.

Your door and rear windows are tempered glass. It’s been heat-treated so that when it goes, it goes all at once into a pile of little cubes, like a tray of ice cubes knocked off the counter. Nothing to fill, nothing to glue. A broken side window always means a new one.
The glass is the easy part, honestly. The cubes are the job: they hide inside the door, down the window channel and in every seat seam. We pull the door panel, vacuum the inside of the door and the whole cabin, and test the window regulator (the motor and track that wind the glass up) before the new pane goes anywhere near it.
Don’t know what the piece is called? Text a photo of the hole and we’ll find the part.
Door Glass
Front and back door windows on cars, pickups, SUVs and vans. We keep around 40 of the most common door glass parts on our shelf; the rest usually show up the next business day.
Back Glass
The rear window, nearly always with a printed defroster grid and sometimes a radio antenna in it. Both get hooked back up and tested before the keys come back to you.
Quarter Glass
That little fixed window behind the back door or beside the rear seat. Some press into a rubber gasket. Others are glued in like a windshield and need time to set.
Sunroof Glass
Sliding and fixed roof panels. Roof glass changes a lot between models and trims, so every sunroof gets quoted off the year, make and model.
- Door glass: $250 to $450
- Back glass with defroster grid: $350 to $800
- Quarter glass: $200 to $400
- Sunroof glass: quoted per vehicle
- Glass clean-up and vacuum: included

How Much Does Car Window Replacement Cost in Saskatoon?
Car window replacement in Saskatoon costs $250 to $450 for most door glass, $350 to $800 for back glass with a defroster grid and $200 to $400 for quarter glass in 2026. The price depends on the part, whether the glass is tinted or acoustic, and how much broken glass has to come out of the door.
| Window | Typical price | Time in the shop |
|---|---|---|
| Front or rear door glass | $250 to $450 | 1 to 2 hours |
| Back glass, defroster grid | $350 to $800 | 1.5 to 2.5 hours |
| Quarter glass, set in a gasket | $200 to $400 | About 1 hour |
| Quarter glass, bonded with urethane | $250 to $450 | 1 hour plus cure time |
| Sunroof glass | Quoted per vehicle | 1 to 3 hours |
European cars and brand new trucks sometimes need a dealer-only part, which can cost more. You’ll hear the number before we order anything.
In our experience about one in three back windows we replace in winter broke from cold, not a rock: a frozen hatch slammed hard on a minus 35 morning. Let it warm up a minute before you slam it.
Types of Car Window Replacement
Side Window Replacement
Side window replacement means the four door windows. The new tempered pane clips into the regulator, the channels get cleaned out so it won’t rattle at 100 km/h, and we run it up and down a dozen times before the panel goes back on.
Back Window Replacement
Back window replacement is the break we see most after a smash-and-grab, a tailgate that met a trailer hitch or a hockey bag tossed in a bit too hard. The new glass arrives with the defroster grid already printed on, those thin stripes that clear the frost, and we reconnect the leads and test the grid with a meter.
Quarter Glass Replacement
Quarter glass replacement is a small part with big variety. Some quarter windows sit in a rubber gasket and pop in. Others are bonded to the body with the same urethane adhesive as a windshield and need about an hour to set before the car moves.
We’ve found the bonded ones are where shortcuts show up later. A quarter window set without primer on the body flange leaks by spring, so we prime every one.
Sunroof Glass Replacement
Sunroof glass replacement starts with finding the exact part number. We fit the new glass, set it flush with the roof and check the seal, because a sunroof that whistles at highway speed drives people around the bend.
Acoustic and Tinted Side Glass
A lot of newer cars put laminated acoustic glass in the front doors to keep road noise down. It looks like any other window but costs more, and if somebody swaps in plain tempered glass you’ll hear the difference on Circle Drive. We match what came from the factory.
After a Break-In or a Rock Through the Back Window
Tape heavy plastic over the hole with packing tape, park so the open side faces away from the wind, and leave the window switch alone if there’s glass in the track. If it happens on a minus 25 night, idle the car with the heater on and the opening covered so frost doesn’t build up on the inside.
With side and back glass, SGI usually wants you to start an Auto eClaim online first; our SGI windshield claims page explains how. People from Langham and Delisle usually phone ahead so the part is waiting when they get into town.
Last winter a customer drove in from the north end with a garbage bag taped over the back window at minus 30, and the bag held the whole way. Plastic and patience work fine for a day or two.
What Happens in the Shop
- Panel off: the inside door trim comes off so we can get at the channel and the regulator.
- Clean out: we vacuum every last cube of tempered glass from the door shell, the carpet and the seat tracks. On a back window that’s usually 20 minutes on its own.
- Check the track: bent regulators and snapped clips get sorted now, before they chew up the new glass.
- Set the glass: in goes the new pane, up and down it runs, and we look over the seals.
- Test the extras: defroster grids, antennas and heated glass all get tested before you pay.
A cracked windshield is a whole other job with its own steps. That one lives on our home page under windshield replacement.
How long does car window replacement take?
Most car window replacement takes 1 to 2 hours for a door window and 1.5 to 2.5 hours for back glass, including the vacuum. Bonded quarter glass needs about an hour more to set. With an appointment and the part in stock, most cars come in in the morning and leave the same afternoon.
Can a side window be repaired instead of replaced?
No. Side and back windows are tempered glass, which breaks into small cubes all at once, so there is nothing left to repair. Chip repair only works on the laminated glass in windshields and some acoustic front door windows, which hold together when they crack.
Does SGI cover a broken side window?
A broken side or back window is usually covered by an SGI package policy after your deductible. SGI asks you to start an Auto eClaim online for side and back glass, then we do the replacement and bill SGI directly for the covered amount.
Will the new back glass have a working defroster?
Yes. Replacement back glass comes with the defroster grid already printed on it. We reconnect the power leads, plus the antenna if your car has one in the glass, and test the grid with a meter before you leave the shop.
What should I do with a broken car window until my appointment?
Tape heavy plastic over the opening, vacuum loose glass off the seats and don’t use the window switch. Park in a garage or with the open side away from the wind. Book quickly in winter, because snow and frost inside the door can damage the regulator.
A few words from drivers we have set glass for this year.
Gravel truck got me on Highway 11 and the crack was across the whole windshield by morning. They filed the SGI claim, I paid my $100 and had the truck back before lunch. No mess inside, no whistle on the highway.
Kyle D.WarmanPickup windshield My SUV has the lane camera and the dealer wanted a week. Prestige did the windshield and the calibration the same afternoon and showed me the printout. The lane assist works like it did before.
Priya S.StonebridgeWindshield and calibration Had a chip the size of a dime. They filled it in about twenty minutes and it cost me nothing with my package policy. Honest enough to say I did not need a new windshield.
Marlene T.WillowgroveChip repair Someone smashed my passenger window downtown. They picked the car up from my work, replaced the glass, vacuumed every bit out of the door and dropped it back by four. Fair price.
